We are delighted to offer professional teeth whitening and this popular, conservative procedure can whiten your smile and rejuvenate your appearance in as little as two weeks.
Over time, teeth can lose their shine and become discoloured. This can be through lifestyle habits, ageing, regular tea or wine consumption, medication, and even your genes
Patients often comment that they find discoloured teeth a source of embarrassment or depleted confidence and this transformative treatment - which can make your teeth several shades whiter – can boost confidence as well as improving aesthetics.
Patients choose tooth whitening for all sorts of reasons; maybe you have a special event or wedding to attend. Or maybe you have given up smoking and want to treat yourself. Or perhaps you simply wish to maintain a beautiful smile you’ve worked hard to keep. Whatever the reason, the results we can provide will certainly give you something to smile about!
Our practice proudly offers Boutique whitening. This award-winning product has many benefits:
The procedure itself is very straightforward. A scan (or impression) of your mouth is sent to the Boutique Laboratory and from this, clear acrylic trays are constructed with a reservoir compartment on the visible surface of each tooth.
These trays are provided at the fit appointment, at which their use is demonstrated. Minty peroxide gel is gently syringed into the reservoir compartment before the trays are placed over the teeth. They are then worn to bed and removed in the morning. They can be worn for a few hours each evening instead if you would prefer but most patients wear them overnight. This process is then repeated every night for a period of two to three weeks or until the desired shade is reached. Whitening will only alter the shade of natural teeth, not restorations, crowns or veneers, so this is worthy of consideration. Heavily restored teeth may require replacement of existing restorations once treatment is complete if your natural teeth whiten considerably and this should be considered.
Some teeth whiten more effectively than others and it is not therefore possible to guarantee a particular shade. If you smoke or drink reasonable amounts of tea, coffee or red wine, some of the staining will return. This can usually be polished off at your hygienist appointment or by undertaking a short top up treatment offered at minimal cost. The most common reported side effect is increased sensitivity and this is frequently encountered to varying degrees. If you already have sensitive teeth you are more likely to be affected and whilst it does not completely contraindicate you as a candidate for tooth whitening, it would be advised that you carefully consider if this is suitable for you. The important thing to remember is that this is a purely cosmetic treatment. It has no functional or health benefits and the shade of your teeth is not an indicator of health.
