A dental implant consists of a titanium screw placed within the jawbone which is then connected to either a crown (to replace a single tooth), a bridge (to replace multiple teeth) or a precision attachment within a denture. They are versatile and offer a fixed solution which can be applied to single, multiple and entire arches of missing teeth.

Ever since the first successful titanium dental implant was placed in a live patient by Dr. Branemark in 1965, advancements in this ground-breaking treatment modality mean that it is now regarded as the gold standard for replacement of missing teeth and aiding the retention of removable dentures. Essentially, it entails one or more titanium screws placed within the jaw bone and from which a connecting body is then attached to either replace a single tooth with a crown or multiple teeth with linked crown or fixed bridges, or precision attachments that clip into the fitting surface of a denture.
The implant assessment will be undertaken by Dr. Muneezeh Shahid, after which the findings of your CBCT scan and this assessment will be passed onto Dr. Patel, who will review suitability for treatment and contact you in person to discuss treatment options, treatment cost and organise treatment, should you elect to proceed.
Based upon the intricacy and complexity of implant placement and also for your own piece of mind, we would always advocate seeking either a dental specialist or dentist with significant additional training in dental implants if you are considering having them placed. We are absolutely delighted to offer implant placement at Woodbridge Dental Care courtesy of peripatetic implant surgeon, Dr. Vishal Patel, who expertly places implants for single, multiple or entire arches of missing teeth and dedicates his clinical practice exclusively to providing dental implants at multiple practices across Essex and Suffolk. Having placed over 4,000 dental implants since 2017, placing 659 in 2025 with a success rate of 98%, and with glowing patient reviews, we have absolutely no hesitation in offering in-house referral for his expertise. You can visit his website, find out more about him and view successfully treated cases at https://vpimplantology.com/
For more complex cases, or if it is your personal preference, we are also delighted to be able to offer profound intra-venous sedation courtesy of a consultant anaesthetist. Whilst it can seem daunting, the majority of the procedures are performed as keyhole to ensure minimal postoperative discomfort, so it is often less traumatic than seeking tooth extraction with similar time for the wound to heal.
Once the implant(s) has/have been placed, there is a process of healing for a minimum of twelve weeks to allow for the bone and implant surface to integrate. Dr. Muneezeh Shahid (or the referring dentist) will then take over the treatment and provide a top-grade zirconia implant prosthesis, offering exceptional tooth replacement and durability that is made to last, often with the aid of an intraoral scanner, which negates the need for impressions. In full mouth or more complex cases Dr. Vishal Patel will also undertake the restoration of the implants.
Moving forwards, our team will support you to help maintain excellent oral health, ensuring your implants are in good order and lasting for as long as possible. If there are any problems at all with the implant itself, we can ensure you are referred back to Dr. Vishal Patel or we can provide treatment recommended by him, depending on the problem. Such problems are rare but it’s important to know that expertise is on-hand in the event of anything unforeseen.
